Robyn's Five Step Diet Plan

This is just a plan. No scientific study involved in the formulation of this plan. But, if anyone tries it and it works (or doesn't!), let me know. : )

1. Eat as much organic as possible. Trust me, it isn't THAT much more expensive than regular food and the benefits pay for themselves. Organics have more nutrients. And, our bodies hold on to toxins by encasing them in fat cells. So, theory goes that if you eliminate the toxins from processed and non-organic foods, you will eliminate your body's need to store those toxins in fat cells. So, your body won't retain fat. Warning. If you don't currently eat a lot of organic foods, expect your body to go through a bit of a revolt when you switch over. But, it will be worth it in the end.
2. Make your own meals. Don't rely on pre-made, frozen, processed, canned or dried foods. Try to cook and/or eat food from the outside edge of the grocery store (I stole this idea from the guy who wrote Omnivore's Dilemma). This includes produce, fresh meats, and dairy. Know what you are eating, how much salt, butter, etc. is in what you eat.
3. Have a bowl of boring, instant, plain oatmeal for breakfast. I jazz mine up with fruit. My favorite is to microwave a bowl of oatmeal and water and then when it's done I mix in half a banana and cinnamon. Delicious! You can also throw in some frozen berries before you cook it. That is easy and delicious.
4. Have at least one salad a day. This can be part of a meal or the meal itself. Feel free to add fun goodies like dried fruits, grilled chicken, olives, artichoke hearts. Try to wean yourself off of dressing. You can start by just using balsamic and olive oil, then just balsamic, then nothing at all. Also, olives and artichoke hearts can add a bit of vinegar that will remind you of dressing.
5. Work out for about 30 minutes 4-5 days a week. Nothing major. An easy run, elliptical, bike. Or you can lift weights. It's important to just stress your body for a bit more days than not. Also, you can supplement your workout with taking the stairs, walking places, carrying a basket at the store rather than getting a cart. Be creative with ways you can increase your activity.
